Stefano Passerini, born in Rome, Italy, is a distinguished chemist renowned for his pioneering work in electrochemical energy storage. He earned his degree in Chemistry from the University of La Sapienza in Rome in 1983 and completed his Ph.D. in Chemistry at the same institution in 1992. From 1993 to 1999, Dr. Passerini conducted research at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, USA. In 2008, he joined the University of Münster in Germany, where he co-founded and co-directed the Münster Electrochemical Energy Technology (MEET) research center. In January 2014, he became a professor at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and served as the director of the Helmholtz Institute Ulm (HIU) until December 2022. Since January 2023, Dr. Passerini has been a professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of La Sapienza in Rome. Additionally, since July 2024, he has been serving as a Senior Expert Advisor at the Austrian Institute of Technology (AIT) in Vienna. His research focuses on the development of materials and systems for electrochemical energy storage, with an emphasis on high-energy batteries and supercapacitors. Dr. Passerini has authored over 810 scientific publications and has been recognized as a Highly Cited Researcher by Clarivate Analytics. In 2016, he was elected as a Fellow of the International Society of Electrochemistry (ISE), and in 2019, he became a member of the National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina.
