Nicola Poccia, born on July 27, 1984, in Italy, is a distinguished physicist specializing in experimental condensed matter physics. He earned his B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Physics from Sapienza University of Rome, completing his Ph.D. in Material Science there in 2011 with a thesis on hard X-ray spatiotemporal techniques for controlling complexity in cuprate high-temperature superconductors. Following his doctorate, Dr. Poccia held Marie Curie Fellowships at the University of Twente and the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility in Grenoble. He then joined Harvard University's Department of Physics as a postdoctoral fellow. In May 2019, he became a group leader and founded the "Superpuddles Lab" at the Leibniz Institute for Solid State and Materials Research (IFW-Dresden) in Germany. His research focuses on the synthesis, nanoscale imaging, and control of topological superconductors in complex quantum materials, aiming to develop superconducting properties robust up to room temperature. Dr. Poccia has secured significant funding, including over one million euros from the German Research Foundation (DFG) and Terra Quantum AG. In addition to his role at IFW-Dresden, he serves as a Professor of Experimental Condensed Matter Physics and Applications at the University of Naples "Federico II" in Italy, fostering collaboration between his German and Italian research endeavors.
