Lucio Baccaro, born in 1966 in Alberobello, Italy, is a distinguished political economist and professor of Comparative Macro-Sociology at the University of Geneva. He earned a Laurea in Philosophy summa cum laude from the University of Rome, La Sapienza, followed by an MBA. Baccaro completed a Doctorate in Labor Law and Industrial Relations at the University of Pavia in 1997 and a Ph.D. in Management and Political Science from MIT in 1999. His academic career includes positions at MIT, the International Labour Organization (ILO) in Geneva, and the University of Geneva, where he served as a professor of sociology from 2009 to 2017. In 2017, he became a Scientific Member and Director at the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Societies in Cologne, focusing on comparative political economy and industrial relations, particularly growth models in the European Union. Baccaro has published extensively on these topics and is a prominent figure in the literature on growth models. He is a member of the American Political Science Association and has served on the executive council of the Society for the Advancement of Socio-Economics. His research continues to influence the understanding of economic and social structures in Europe.
