We are delighted to share that Prof. Dr. Katia Parodi, founding member of SIGN e.V., has been awarded the 2026 Glocker Medal, the highest distinction of the German Society for Medical Physics (DGMP). The medal was presented during the 57th DGMP Annual Meeting in Bamberg, held from 16 to 19 September 2026. With this distinction, the DGMP recognizes outstanding and sustained contributions to medical physics in both science and clinical practice. Katia Parodi is Professor of Medical Physics at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, where she has held the Chair of Medical Physics since 2012. Her research focuses on image-guided high-precision radiotherapy with protons and heavy ions, as well as novel radiation sources, imaging methods and detector technologies aimed at improving cancer treatment. Her scientific career has included research at TU Dresden, Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston, and the Heidelberg Ion Beam Therapy Center. She has published more than 300 scientific papers, received an ERC Consolidator Grant, was elected Fellow of the American Association of Physicists in Medicine in 2024, and has served as Editor-in-Chief of Physics in Medicine and Biology since 2021. She also served as President of the DGMP from 2017 to 2018. For SIGN e.V., this recognition has a special significance. Katia has been part of our network from its foundation, embodying the international scientific excellence and the strong connection between Italy and Germany that lie at the heart of our association.
