The Board of the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT) has appointed Professor Gianmario Verona as the Institute’s new President. The decision was taken during the Board meeting of April 28, 2026, which also approved IIT’s 2025 financial statements. Verona, a member of the IIT Board since 2021, succeeds Gabriele Galateri di Genola, who concludes 14 years at the helm of the Foundation. The Board expressed its gratitude to the outgoing President for his contribution to strengthening IIT as one of Italy’s leading centers for scientific and technological research, innovation, technology transfer, and collaboration with industry. The appointment comes at an important stage in IIT’s development, as the Institute continues to strengthen its international role and address major challenges in areas including emerging technologies, digital transformation, and sustainability. Gianmario Verona is Full Professor of Management at Bocconi University, where he served as Rector from 2016 to 2022. His research focuses on the strategic and organizational management of technology and innovation, entrepreneurship, and digital transformation. Since July 2022, he has also served as President of the Human Technopole Foundation. During his academic career at Bocconi, he has held several senior leadership positions, including Deputy Rector for Human Resources, Director of the full-time MBA program at SDA Bocconi School of Management, and Director of the PhD program in Business Administration. Verona has extensive experience at the intersection of academia and industry, having worked with multinational corporations, SMEs, and startups through applied research, executive education, and strategic advisory activities. His international academic experience includes appointments as Winter Term Visiting Professor at the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth and as Visiting Scholar at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). A Full Professor since 2008, Verona has authored more than 90 academic publications and six books focusing on technology strategy, innovation, and new product development. His research has appeared in leading international academic and management journals, including Harvard Business Review and MIT Sloan Management Review. With Gianmario Verona’s appointment, IIT combines institutional continuity with a strong focus on innovation, scientific excellence, and international competitiveness, further reinforcing its role within the Italian and European research and technology ecosystem.
