On Tuesday, June 3, 2025, the Italian Embassy in Berlin hosted a grand event to commemorate the 69th Anniversary of the Republic Day of Italy. While Republic Day is officially observed on June 2nd, the embassy chose to hold the celebration a day later to facilitate preparations. More than 1,400 Italian and international guests, including the founding members of the SIGN Organization, gathered to mark this significant occasion. The evening began at 6:30 PM with a captivating performance of the Italian, German, and European anthems by singer Malika Ayane, accompanied by cellist Martina Biondi and violinist Cecilia Ferron. Following the anthems, His Excellency Italian Ambassador Fabrizio Bucci delivered a speech highlighting the strategic and economic importance of Italian-German cooperation. He also noted that 2025 marks a special milestone: the 70th anniversary of the labor agreement between Italy and Germany (December 20, 1955). This agreement allowed Italian workers, initially known as Gastarbeiter or guest workers, to enter the Federal Republic. The German government was well-represented by State Secretary for Foreign Affairs Gunther Krichbaum, alongside State Secretaries Dörte Dinger (Office of the Federal President), Jörg Semmler (Federal Chancellery), and Ulrich Lange (Ministry of Transport). Numerous parliamentarians and other federal and local authorities also attended, underscoring the event's role as a vital platform for dialogue, shared understanding, and friendship between Italy and Germany. Organized under the motto ‘Italy innovates’, the celebration also featured an exhibition showcasing Italy's excellence and achievements across six key areas: Industry 4.0, energy, transport, defense, aerospace, and services.
