The HyBridge – Italian-German Workshop on Green Hydrogen Research Cooperation, taking place on March 14, 2025, represents a landmark initiative in advancing bilateral collaboration between Italy and Germany in the field of sustainable hydrogen technologies. This high-profile event gathers leading researchers, policymakers, and industry stakeholders to explore synergies, share insights, and accelerate the development of green hydrogen solutions. Hosted by esteemed institutions from both countries, the workshop features an engaging program that includes keynote addresses from Mauro Battocchi (Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation), Stefan Müller (German Federal Ministry of Education and Research), Gianluigi Consoli (Italian Ministry of University and Research), and Min. Pl. Benjamin Hanna (Embassy of Germany to Italy). Moderated by Piergiorgio Alotto, Science Attaché at the Italian Embassy in Germany, the event highlights groundbreaking projects such as DURALYS, presented by Sven Jovanovic (Forschungszentrum Jülich) & Enrico Negro (Università di Padova); FIT4H2, led by Gianaurelio Cuniberti (Technische Universität Dresden) & Liberato Manna (Fondazione Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia); and HIT, introduced by Viktor Scherer (Ruhr-Universität Bochum) & Osvalda Senneca (Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche – STEMS). Beyond fostering bilateral collaboration, these research projects could also contribute to the broader multistate vision of transporting green hydrogen from North Africa to Central Europe, aligning with ambitious European decarbonization strategies. Initiatives like the South2 Corridor are already laying the groundwork for large-scale hydrogen transport infrastructure, and Italian-German cooperation in green hydrogen innovation could play a pivotal role in ensuring the success of such transnational efforts. The workshop fosters in-depth discussions through dedicated Q&A sessions, networking opportunities, and a workshop on stakeholder engagement, emphasizing the vital role of international cooperation in achieving a carbon-neutral future. As Italy and Germany deepen their commitment to green energy solutions, HyBridge serves as a key catalyst for fostering innovation and creating a sustainable hydrogen economy.
