Vincenzo Maria Schimmenti is a postdoctoral researcher in biophysics at the Max Planck Institute for the Physics of Complex Systems in Dresden. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering and a master’s degree in Physics of Data from the University of Padova, and completed his PhD in theoretical physics at Université Paris-Saclay in 2022. His research in statistical mechanics spans biophysics, geophysics, and machine learning, with a particular focus on forecasting seismic aftershocks from GPS ground deformation data. In 2025, he was among the recipients of the Ig Nobel Prize in Physics.
