Tomaso Duso, born in Padua, Italy, is a distinguished Italian-German economist specializing in empirical industrial organization and competition policy. He completed his Laurea in Economics at the University of Ca' Foscari in Venice in 1996 and earned his Ph.D. in Economics from Humboldt University of Berlin in 2002 under the supervision of Lars-Hendrik Röller. Duso has held various academic and research positions, including professorships at the Düsseldorf Institute for Competition Economics (DICE) and the Technische Universität (TU) Berlin. He currently leads the Firms and Markets Department at the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW Berlin) and serves as the spokesperson for the Berlin Centre for Consumer Policies (BCCP). In July 2022, he was appointed as a member of the Monopolies Commission, an independent advisory body on competition policy and law in Germany, and assumed its chairmanship in September 2024. Throughout his career, Duso has been recognized for his expertise in applied microeconometrics and competition policy, regularly advising international organizations and governmental institutions, including the European Commission and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). His research focuses on market regulation, digitalization, merger control, and management, with numerous publications in esteemed academic journals.
