Prof. Marcello Romano is Chair Professor of Astrodynamics at the Technical University of Munich, appointed in January 2025. He specializes in spaceflight mechanics, focusing on rotational and orbital maneuvers of artificial satellites, autonomous guidance, navigation and control systems, advanced space missions, and orbital robotics for in-space servicing, assembly, and debris removal. His academic career began with a PhD in Aerospace Engineering from Politecnico di Milano, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship at the U.S. National Research Council and a tenure-track professorship as founding director of the Spacecraft Robotics Lab at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California. He also held visiting professorships at NASA Ames, Stanford University, and TUM. His work integrates theory with simulation, lab and flight experimentation, and he engages in entrepreneurial innovation and technology transfer for a sustainable space future.
