Giuseppe Caire, born in Turin, Italy, is a prominent telecommunications engineer and academic. He earned his B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from Politecnico di Torino in 1990, an M.Sc. from Princeton University in 1992, and a Ph.D. from Politecnico di Torino in 1994. Caire's career includes roles as Assistant Professor at Politecnico di Torino (1995–1997), Associate Professor at the University of Parma (1997–1998), and Professor at the Eurecom Institute in Sophia Antipolis (1998–2005). In 2005, he joined the University of Southern California as a Professor of Electrical Engineering. Since 2014, he has held the Alexander von Humboldt Professorship at the Technical University of Berlin, leading the Chair of Communications and Information Theory. Caire's research focuses on information theory and wireless communications. He has served as President of the IEEE Information Theory Society in 2011 and has been recognized as a Highly Cited Researcher in Computer Science multiple times. His accolades include the 2021 Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize and election to the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina in 2024.
