Giovanni Costantini is Professor of Physical Chemistry in the School of Chemistry at the University of Birmingham, where he has held the chair since 2022, following his previous appointment as Professor of Physical Chemistry at the University of Warwick. He leads the Nanoscience at Surfaces group, whose research explores the structure, properties, and functionality of complex systems at interfaces. After earning a Laurea in Physics in 1994 and a PhD in Physics in 2000 at the University of Genova, he moved to the Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research in Stuttgart, where he worked as a Group Leader. His research focuses on surface nanostructuring, supramolecular self-assembly, metal-organic interfaces, chiral recognition, conjugated polymers, and the interaction of biomolecules with surfaces, with a long-standing emphasis on the fundamental mechanisms governing matter at surfaces and interfaces.
