Armando Varricchio, born in Venice, is a distinguished Italian diplomat who served as Ambassador to Germany from 2016 to 2021. He earned a summa cum laude degree in International Relations from the University of Padua. Varricchio's career includes postings as Ambassador to the United States and Berlin (2021-2024), as well as roles within the Italian government, including Deputy Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He was awarded Italy's highest honor, the Knight Grand Cross of the Order of Merit. During his mandate as Italian Embassy in Berlin he strongly pushed for the foundation of SIGNeV giving us a house (the embassy in Berlin) and its prestigious frame for SIGNeV events. In this way Italian science in Germany finally found a definitive address. He is past honorary president of SIGNeV and honorary member.

During his tenure as Ambassador to the Italian Embassy in Berlin, he was a driving force behind the establishment of SIGNeV, providing not only a home for the organization within the Embassy's walls but also a prestigious setting for its events. Through his efforts, Italian science in Germany finally found a lasting and prominent address.
